About VC

Growing up in Eureka, Kan., my radio was tuned to 580-WIBW out of Topeka. I listened to my K-State Wildcats, the Royals and sometimes the Kansas City-Omaha Kings. My radio was turned way down not to disturb anyone the night the Cats played the Russian National team in Ahearn Fieldhouse and the sound was still deafening.
That began my passion for sports, which began with part-time stints at the Independence (KS) Reporter and Manhattan Mercury before landing full-time in 1986 at the Kansas City Kansan. Three years later, a green-behind-the-ears rookie named Matt Patterson needed some part-time-work. I loved his passion, his work ethic. This began not a boss-worker relationship, but 2 dudes who loved sports and could feed off each other.
I got to do a lot in my newspaper time from 1986-94: Final Four in 1988, Chiefs beating Pittsburgh 21-17 (1986) in Three Rivers Stadium the day the Chiefs scored all 3 TDs off Special Teams (which clinched playoff spot by the way), playing one hole of golf with John Daly to collecting all the TV sports camera banners.
I got out of newspapers in 1994 when I began my current gig for the Kansas Masonic Foundation in Topeka. But sports has never left me and recently through Facebook was reuined with my Main Man Matt!
I live with my wife Denise and 7 year old triplet daughters in Pomona, Kan. I'm lovin' life, to say the least!
I love the human interest side of people. Each one of us has a story to tell. I ask questions, lots of them, to find out those angles. Just ask Matt or my wife.
Come follow along with us as we bring you our passion - our passion for sports as we celebrate life through sports!

About MP

I am a sportswriter from years ago making my Ali-like return to the ring via this blog. I live in Springfield Missouri now and have a wonderful family. I work a full time gig for wireless carrier and follow all kinds of sports.
I am a ham and egger guy, just a regular grinder. I go to work and live for spending time with my family that consists of my wife Kim and my boy Luke who is definitely my main man. He is 2 and listens to Terrible Ted Nugent, need I say more? I also have a brown dog named Roscoe who is a pretty good buddy too.
I am so excited to start writing again. This gives me a great creative outlet and reunites me with my first newspaper boss and old pal VC.
I have always been a huge fan of all sports. I am a Chiefs season ticket holder and follow basketball religiously. I was mainly a coverage guy so you can expect limitations when it comes to the creative writing side. Please leave that to the venerable VC.
What I will be writing about are things that interest me, which is the beauty of this thing. No VC, I will not be writing about the Lansing track team and their stud javelin thrower who has a partial scholarship offer from Emporia State.
What I will be talkin is college and pro football and basketball, some MLB, Valley hoops, Fantasy stuff, Golf, maybe some Texas hold 'em....and heck maybe some 9 ball too.
Whatever the deal I hope you enjoy, I will enjoy putting my thoughts in writing.
Thank you everyone very much for reading.
